Wake Up!
“Alren. Alren.. Hey Alren, you lazy bum! get off your duff and come here. Oh I swear, men these days!” came the familiar voice in a harsh tone.
“Huh, what?” Alren frequently sleeps before story time with the kids. Now alert he realizes who is in the dark dry room, “oh it’s you Iona.” yawned Alren with indiction and slurred speech.
The slender figure of a woman still perched against the doorway watches Alren as he just sits up stretching. “Yeah it’s me, you sluggish oaf, and the children are waiting for you. You know, to tell them the story you promised. ”
(Alren and Iona are a married couple in their thirties. Alren, who is a lazy bum at times, is really a kind caring individual. He has a boyish face with very defined muscles and skin. His hands are rough with callous, but remarkably smooth for how hard he works. He stands a moderate five foot eleven inches, his body composition is sleek, he has brown eyes and hair, and can muster laughter out of anyone with his own comedic stupidity. Although Alren acts like a fool in every respect of the word, he is very intelligent. He is practically a genius who masks his intelligence with foolishness so people don’t feel intimidated by him.
Iona is also very intellectual and caring. She is very beautiful, but what do you expect, she is married to the main character, and is a main character herself. Iona Has silky smooth skin and hands. Her long mid waist hair flows like the wind and shines like a star. Her hair color is chestnut brown, and her seductive eyes are pearlescent green.)
“You need to get out off the couch now. You know what, maybe I should go buy you an alarm clock so you don’t over sleep, you know?”
Alren sits for a second thinking. “Ah phewy. I can get up, I will just set the other one you got me. You know, from last year at my birthday.
Iona, a bit annoyed, remembers that clock and something struck her mind like a concussion grenade. “Hey, you said you lost it! You said it was dropped off tremmers peak with your travel pack! Alren, do you have the clock?”
Alren realizes that now he has to tell her the truth. He is a bit shaken, due to the fact that he just awoke, and due to the future of his head, a punching bag. He must tell her about how he threw the clock in a make shift portal pouch, a device used to change the molecular structure of an object. This device, in the shape of a change purse, then shrinks the object to a small size and puts the pieces back together. Then presto, pocket size clock. He did this because he thought it was hideous.
Alren now calm and mildly awake speaks very softly to Iona as to seem more innocent than he is of this marital crime. “I kinda hid it.”
Iona doesn’t quite understand and looks at him with eyes squinted half closed. “What do you mean hid it?”
“I used that portal pouch, you know, the one we used back in turtle cove.
Iona, now with her face fiercely contorted and her hands on her hips, lets go a sigh. “Let me guess. You did think it was ugly huh?”
Alren grins with incredulous certainty. “Only a tid bit hideous. I think it was the strange looking wooden owl that freaked me out. Hmmm..... Maybe it was how every time it chimed it would screech like a cat stuck in a lawn mower.” “You told me that you liked it. I thought you would say it was horrendous, but you said.....”
“Yes I know, but I like all presents, you know that. Even if I thought that it looked like a drowned rat, I would appreciate the thought. I just got sick of the screeching.”
“That was a malfunction. Something broke in it, so the sound couldn’t be helped. You should have told me first.”
“What would you have done if I said it was ugly and that it gave me a headache? I’ll tell you what, you would grab your staff and change me into a frog, or an insect, or maybe into some small rodent. Anyway you look at it, it would not be pretty.”
“Yeah, your right. But at least you would have told me.”
“I know I know. I’m sorry.
“Anyway, off that subject before I do something I regret. what fabulous tale are you going to tell the children this time? I hope it is not about Fire Cavern again. Your dad’s pride and joy isn’t necessarily that impressive. Well, it was at first, but you have only told it about what, ten, twenty times?”
Alren rises and moves clumsily towards her with the light hiding her defined body. “No, I think they are old enough to hear about Our life story. But hey, wait a tick...... It was three times thank you very much! And besides, they liked it didn’t they?”
Iona rises and crosses her arms then stares for a moment. She looks dazed, like she’s confused. “You mean dragon mountain and the light of talon?! Are you sure?”
“Hey, are you switching subjects on purpose?”
“No, but are you sure? Are you sure they can handle the responsibility. Remember that after you tell them you have to appoint a leader. All of us took the oath.” Iona wanders her eyes to a wall with a picture of five friends huddled in a circle. “I just don’t think that they are old enough yet.”
“Keep it down, the children might be spying on us again. Oh, and I think Linear is old enough to handle a little responsibility.”
“Our son is sixteen.”
“I know dear, that is why I want him to be in charge. he is the second oldest remember. Besides, do you remember how old we were when we went on our first adventure?”
“Yes. I was sixteen, you were seventeen, and that was a long time ago. But, then again, you are the one who chooses, so how can I argue. It’s only....” She sighs. “I just don’t think he is ready.”
Alren smiles happily at her. “I have seen him use his magic and his strategic abilities in difficult battle simulations. He has done very well in all of my tests, better than everyone else except for Ron come to think about it. Linear is also very compassionate to his enemies, so I pick him to be the leader. Besides, I pick Ron to be his second in command, so they can watch each others back.”
“I will just let you decide. You better be sure though.”
“I am, but I can only hope they take it well, because I must pick before they are twenty. Anyway, back on subject. I don’t think their parents will mind me repeating the tale because the kids are old enough and they were never really good at telling stories in the first place. That is my specialty.”
“Yeah, even though you like to exaggerate a whole lot. You taking on a full grown Ice dragon and not even being scared. Geeez, there is a fib that even the smallest child could spot. And you even mixed some parts of other stories into ones that weren’t that exciting”
“Easy now, I like to add an edge, besides, They would have believed me if....”
“If what?”
“Well you did come out and interrupt my story, telling to the children not to believe me, and saying that I was making it up. Besides, even though I did get lucky, I still beat the dragon. Am I right, or am I right?”
“Whatever. You did scare me you know.”
“Yeah, that was pretty cool, uh, I mean dangerous. Anyway, back on subject, I think our friends will agree that I would be the best suited to tell the tale. Don’t you?”
“I guess so. Just don’t fib too much, ok.”
“well then, it’s agreed. Just... um.....”
“What? What?! Well, Spit it out!”
“Don’t criticize me!”
“Oh, I won’t honey, you just tell your little story to the kids.” Iona wraps her arms around Alren and gives him a kiss on the cheek. “Hey, go, it’s time, the little ones are waiting for you at the story circle.” “
“Hold on, I need to stretch.... ahhhhh.” Alren stretches his hands up and puts his head back.
“You get your lazy patut out there right now bub, or I will make sure you can’t rest on your butt for a week, by putting my foot there!"
“Easy now! you need to calm down. Haha, oh man...”
“What?”
Alren grabs her hand, turns it over, and gently presses his lips against the back of her hand. “I had forgotten how beautiful you are when you’re mad and serious. You make enemies cringe and make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.”
“Mhmm. You know, sarcasm could get you hurt.”
“Oh really, are you going to uh quote on quote, hurt me?”
“You better believe it buddy. Oh hey, don’t change the subject, now, go!” Iona lifts her pointer finger lovingly and softly rests it on Alren’s forehead, then pushes him out of the doorway he was standing in. Alren catches himself and gives her a smirk. Then, he makes his way to the path leading to the story circle.

How it came to pass!
Alren walks down the train from his house to the story circle. As he treads down the path, he admires the trees and the crisp clean mountain air. He takes note of the squirrels and smaller mammals that were thought to be extinct three centuries past. Now there are as many as there were in the twenty first century. It is the year 3012 A.D. and the world is clean of pollution. Alren remembers the stories he has heard of about the world when people relied on technology to make life better. Pollution built up in the world of man, and by the twenty seventh century the world was in peril. Human kind finally found pollutant free technology, but it was too late for some kinds of animals. certain kinds of fish and other animals were endangered and almost extinct. It was estimated that everyone would die within ten years unless something could be done to rid the atmosphere of pollution and replenish the ozone layer, which had diminished to 17%.
Plants and animals were dying out quickly and hope was leaving the hearts of the world. But, there was one day, when a boy. A boy, with the name Constitine, found something. this boy was the son of a famous explorer. His father was famous for the discovery of an element that only exists in extremely cold temperatures. This element lead to clean technology. But on an expedition, the boy got lost, and with an environmental suit on, wandered the wilderness of alaska. Cold and lost, the boy found refuge in a cave.
This cave gave off a light in the darkness. It felt so warm to the boy. He had to investigate. He had to know what it was about this light that drove him to it. He had a hallucination of a man at the end of the cave. This man asked him his name, and he gave it to him. Then the man asked some more questions about himself. This man knew what to do. He told the boy to reach into the shimmering light that lay just beyond his reach. “Reach into the light.” said the man. So, without reluctance, Constitine reached out and touched the light. There was a sound, the sound of a sonic boom. Then, from the light came a creature. This creature, strange and beautiful, was a draog. The first of its kind. Then, there was another bang and a flash of light. The second draog appeared and the boy knew this was something that would change the world.
(A draog is a dragon that looks like a giant streamlined fox that has been born with a body of a dragon. The skin of a Draog is basically scales, but the scales are covered with thick fir that grows out of the scale itself and the fir varies in color. Draogs also have about three whisker like anteni on either side of the face near the end of the snout. These creatures are born of magic and have the ability to fly without wings, but even though they can fly without them, each draog has a set of wings attached to their bodies.)
The man disappeared after saying three vital words and the boy watched as the blue liquid like light turned green.
Connie (Constitine's nickname) notices his hands glow with power. He feels no fear and realizes the importance of what he has done. The liquid like energy explodes and magnificent light flew out of the cave and into the sky. It covered the planet and the very same light descended from the sky like fog after a rainy day. It brought plants and animals back to life, restored the ozone layer, cleansed the atmosphere, and brought back the planets fuel sources (Fossil fuels), restoring all that humans have worked so hard to destroy.
Magic had reclaimed the realm of man, bringing peace and a new chance to live better. Connie was watching the erie phenomenon, when a scroll appeared in the air right in front of him with a blinding flash, attracting the young boys attention. Connie cautiously approached the floating scroll, almost tripping over his own two feet. The two tiny draogs frolic around his feet, but he doesn’t seem to notice. He slowly reaches for the scroll, pulling it down to eye level so he can read it. It explained that the seal holding magic from the world had shattered and in the process, let out the power to make human and animal life better.
Connie ran out of the cave to find his parents. He looked for a long time and finally stopped to take a break. He had started to lose hope, when the scroll transported him to his parents, who were frantically looking for him as well! He ran to them, hugging his mother’s leg, nearly scaring her out of her pants. She realized the humped body was that of her son’s and whooshed him up into her arms.
“We found you!” she yelled, “Never do that again! I thought I lost you! Oh, I can’t stay mad at you, I am glad you’re safe. I love you so much!” His mother smothers him in kisses and his father rushes to join in on the celebration. As they hug and rejoice in this reunion, Connie’s mother and father notice the scroll in his hand.
“Son, what is that piece of parchment in your hands.” Connie’s father takes the scroll from his sons excited hands. Father and mother read the shimmering red words and understood its meaning. Connie’s dad knew that it was of dire importance to go and find out how to share this information with the world. He yanked out his cellular phone and called the pentagon and the white house. At first they didn’t believe him, but they were curious from the earlier events. They gave him clearance to come to the White House and meet the president.
The agent in which Connie’s father was talking to asked for the coordinates to their location so he could send a helicopter. His father answered, “We are ninety-seven degrees north, thirty degrees west and seventy-four clicks south-by-southeast. The aircraft arrived after a few hours and waited for a signal to tell them where to land. A flare shot up from a hill nearby and the helicopter landed where instructed. The family trotted up to the landed helicopter and Connie was the first onboard. They lifted him up, followed by his mother, and finally, his father. On the way to the White House, Connie told of his adventures in the cave, and what he saw. His parents thought it to be too fantastic to believe, but then again, they did have a mystical glowing scroll. It seemed that not believing wasn’t an option at the moment.
Connie’s father brought the scroll to the president after they disembarked from the helicopter. He ran straight up to the room where the president was and practically threw the scroll into the presidents hands. The president called up a meeting and televised this amazing piece of paper to the world. He showed it to all the countries on all the continents, having interpreters speaking in different languages for all to understand. The scroll told of the process of learning magic. It told that magic had been released and that now it was possible to perform feats that could previously not be done.
Learning how to perform magic is a process that takes time. Practice on a large scale is needed to master a spell and to learn you have to believe. If you do not believe, you can not produce the energy needed to use magical powers and perform spells. A long time of about a year passed before people started to believe. When people learned how to believe, they realized that it was not fantasy, and as time went on, new technologies were created. Also, the world signed treaties of peace, teleportation devices were realized, and in short, the world was saved. Everyone also learned of the draogs. These creatures are just as smart as humans, and even more so, because they can live up to one thousand years. In the future, humans will also be able to live that long. But rules on how many children couples can have will be limited to prevent over population. All of this thanks to a little lost boy. A curious boy lost in the wilderness.
